9 February 2016

On 9 February 2016 more than 1000 organisations got involved to help children and young people enjoy a safer and more positive online experience.

As part of our Safer Schools Programme, You & Co delivered a session on internet safety to Year 6 pupils at Lindow Community School.

During the session pupils looked at some good and bad aspects of the internet, how to stay safe and what details should not be shared online. They also talked about cyber bullying and how you can block people and report crimes, as well as many other areas of cyber crime and the possible consequences for children and young people.

Pupils then had a chance to design posters or leaflets based on what they had learnt from the session and entered these into a school-wide competition.

Amanda Atkinson, who delivered the Safer Internet session, commented on how well the pupils responded to the session:

‘It was great for the children to think about the positive and negative aspects of the internet and how they can keep themselves safe. They showed a good understanding of what they should and shouldn’t share and designed some amazing posters with great safety messages.

The school is arranging some fun activities for Safer Internet Day, including the whole-school poster competition, and I look forward to seeing all the completed designs!’
